The Most Beautiful Corner and Currently Reading

I mean can you even handle the beauty of this corner?! I almost lost my mind with joy when I saw it. As we wandered through Saint-Paul-de-Vence exploring the magical streets, we rounded a corner and came face to face with the most lush flowered covered home I have ever seen! This apparently was the home of a famous poet for many years and I can only believe that living somewhere this beautiful must have inspired some incredible poetry. Poetry seems to flow easily in places like these.

Happy 4th of July to my American readers out there! This is the second year in a row that we have spent the 4th of July outside of the US and it always makes me kinda of sad because I love everything that the 4th of July entails! It’s just so much fun.

One of my favorite parts about being in Florence is how Matt and I make time for reading here. We both love to read which is so much fun and one of my favorite things about Matt. I am currently reading Crazy Rich Asians and it is just pure fun! It has kept me deliciously entertained every step of the way. Crazy Rich Asians is a modern day love story about a girl who unwittingly falls in love with a boy from one of Singapore’s richest families. To call this family rich is not even an accurate description, it makes more sense to call this family MEGA rich aka the richest of the rich.  Let’s just say that his family is not happy that he has fallen in love with a no-name Chinese American girl and they go out of their way to stop their romance. The story is so funny and it is a deep, fun dive into the elite parts of Asian culture and the tip-top elite from Singapore. I loved diving into this world. I would for sure recommend this book as  a summer, beach read. Make sure you read the book before you see the movie! The book is ALWAYS better than the movie. The movie is currently in production and is set to release sometime later this year.

I just recently finished The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron. The Road Back to You is an overview and basic introduction to the enneagram. The enneagram is an ancient personality type system that helps you understand your driving motivations and why you do what you do. As opposed to other personality type tests that categorize people primarily based upon their outward behavior, the enneagram seeks to have each person identify their personality according to their inward driving motivations. The enneagram is supposed to show you how the best parts of your personality also have a dark side that when left unchecked can hinder your relationships. I love learning about the enneagram in any form and this book was a good way to dive deep into each personality type. My first introduction to the enneagram was through a series of lectures by Richard Rohr. I definitely thought that Richard Rohr’s lecture series was more thorough and provided a better overview of the system. If you can, find a way to get your hands on Richard Rohr’s teaching on the enneagram and THEN read “The Road Back to You.” That being said, I really enjoyed the book and it was a great overview of the whole system.

I plan on reading Maria Goff’s book “Love Lives Here” next! After that I have been dying to read “Little Bee” and “An Altar in the World” by Barbara Brown Taylor. I recently finished Barbara Brown Taylor’s book “Leaving Church” and was moved to tears. It was just one of the most beautiful tributes to losing and finding true faith again that I have ever read. I truly sobbed from the beauty of it all at certain points. I highly recommend reading Barbara Brown Taylor’s beautiful memoir.

What are you currently reading? What book do you love right now??
