Twirling and “Everybody, Always”

“As a lawyer, I win arguments for a living but something has changed within me. I want to be Jesus. I’ve concluded I can be correct and not right. Know what I mean? I do this most often when I have the correct words and the wrong heart. Sadly whenever I make my opinions more important than the difficult people God made, I turn wine back into water. I’m trying to resist the bait that darkness offers me everyday to trade kindness for rightness. These are not mutually exclusive ideas, ofcourse, but there’s a big difference between being kind and being right. Pick the most controversial social issue of the day and you’ll find passionate voices on both sides. The sad fact is that many of us have lost our way trying to help people find theirs. Arguments won’t change people. Simply giving away kindness won’t either. Only Jesus has the power to change people and it will be harder for them to see Jesus if their view of Him is blocked by our big opinions.” – Bob Goff

I just started reading Bob Goff’s second book “Everybody, Always” and it is already incredible. The above passage really hit home for me because it encompasses something that I have been working through during this particular season. I will probably spend the rest of the next couple of weeks just re-posting his entire book because what he has to say is so important. My life did not change as a result of somebody’s else’s opinions, it was only transformed through powerful, nonsensical grace-filled love. It is my goal to get out of the way so that other people can see Jesus for who He really is. Our opinions matter so little and truly our faith is so simple. Love God and as an overflow from that love- love you neighbor as yourself. Period. End of story.

“Now while I think we might be known for our opinions, we”ll be remembered for our love.” – Bob Goff.

I can confidently say that Bob Goff is one of the most influential people in my life. His first book “Love Does” changed my life and gave me the confidence to take major steps of faith. “Love Does” helped me love my faith. It showed me the power of loving God and loving people in a way I had never seen before. I saw it and I wanted to be all in. In my book, Bob Goff is basically the 4th member of the Trinity 🙂

^^Isn’t this the most beautiful field you have ever seen? I mean too gorgeous for words! The grounds at the Parker are just beyond gorgeous.
