Driving Through the Cherry Fields outside of Menerbes

I fell in love with Provence when I was following Julia Hengel’s stay in the region last summer. After seeing her gorgeous pictures of the region I knew that Provence was next on my travel bucket list. And oh my gosh Provence did not disappoint. It was everything I had hoped it would be and so much more. So often I follow a blog and become obsessed with seeing a place after the blogger’s pictures make it look so beautiful. Generally the place does not live up to the hype, but that was definitely not the case here! The entire region is just magical. Provence is lush and filled with trees literally dripping with the brightest red cherries you have ever seen. Pitched high above the cherry fields are the cleanest, quaintest ancient walled villages. We flew into Paris, took a train from the Paris airport straight to Avignon and then rented a car from Avignon and drove to Menerbes. By the time we drove into Provence and saw these gorgeous cherry fields I think it is pretty safe to say that we were deliriously tired and completely overjoyed by the fact that our 24 hour trip had been worth all the hassle! The best part about driving in Provence is that there is literally no-one around. Unlike driving in Italy, where you have to navigate past all Italians zooming by you on Vespas, there are only a few other drivers on these country roads. The whole area is just so peaceful. Menerbes is the beautiful town sitting high above these cherry fields. I would highly recommend visiting this magical little place. More from Menerbes to come!
