When I was younger my family traveled to Italy almost every summer. Matt and I had talked about going back for our honeymoon but we thought it would be better to go somewhere that both of us had never been before, so we went to Santorini instead. (#heaven) However, I still could not shake the urge to go back to Italy and probably talked about it incessantly… so we booked a trip for late September! We flew into Rome and spent the day in Rome before heading down to the Amalfi coast and then out to the island of Capri. Our flight got in early Sunday morning. We started the trip off running, and spent all day Sunday exploring Rome. We saw so much of Rome in that first day and oddly enough were not very jet-lagged at all! For some reason, Rome seems to get kind of a bad rap which I totally do not understand because I really love it. There is enough to see and explore in Rome to spend a whole week there. Every street corner is filled with so much history and culture. We toured the Colosseum, saw the Trevi Fountain and explored all these different beautiful squares.
We stayed at the JK Place in Rome and could not have been more impressed! The JK Place is a small boutique hotel chain that is known for its cutting edge design and incredible attention to detail. The service was impeccable, they greeted us when we walked in with the most amazing welcome drinks and a hot towel. The complimentary breakfast was like eating at a 5 star restaurant! I could have stayed there for the entire trip. We would go back in a second. I highly, highly recommend staying there if even just for a night. Even just one night is so worth it. The hotel even gave us a wi-fi hotspot to carry with us during the day while we were out exploring so that we always had internet! Just so thoughtful! The hotel concierge also helped us navigate the travel from Rome down to Amalfi. We took a high speed train from Rome to Naples and then a driver (that our hotel in Amalfi had arranged) picked us up in Naples and drove us about an hour to Amalfi. The train ride from Rome to Naples was about an hour. A train is the fastest way to get from Rome to Naples. The area around the train station in Naples can apparently be pretty dangerous so it is very important that you always get in a certified cab driver’s car and not just some random driver’s car. More about Amalfi next time! 🙂

^^ St. Peter’s Square- beware if you do not buy tickets for a tour, you will have to constantly tell very aggressive sales people that you do not want a tour ticket. The Italian sales people are relentless!
Beautiful!!!!
